About Rik Ty
It occurs to me that visitors to the site might have some curiosity about me -yikes! In the future, I will probably blog here on the site, but right now I just want to get the project off of my desk and out into the world - improvements and second coats to come.
Basic Facts - Let's see, I have lived in New York my whole life - slightly less than 100 years (but I'm hopeful).
I have been married to my sweetheart for over 30 years and we have two daughters - both lovely young ladies, and both very talented.
I was a creative freelancer for 17 years - going full time the year the Mets won the World Series - which was a weird summer for me - I was starting to get very busy and I noticed they were too. It was fun. It felt like an omen. My wife and I watched that series through clenched fingers on a tiny love seat in a basement apartment in the Bronx - but she got me through it with fun and flair - just like she gets me through everything.
I was a cartoonist for a few independent publishers at the time, later, for Marvel, DC, Cracked Magazines and a bunch of others. I was the head designer for the entire run of "Monster in My Pocket" figurines for Matchbox Toys. I made some connections in advertising - I got busier and busier - and then 9-11 happened. Most of my clients were in Manhattan -- and then suddenly Manhattan suffered the unthinkable - and just as suddenly my clients had more pressing concerns than cartoons and toys. My work trickled down to a third of what it had been -- scary - because we had kids.
Luckily, luckily, luckily, I was eventually able to land a very decent job, that I am happy to say I still hold. I don't want to say too much about it, except that I am very grateful for it, and it demands a long commute- time where I do homework for my own project - those mighty, mighty Thrill Kings - a project that has just about finished its first stage - and wonderfully --
- now includes you!
